Edge of Sanity & Don't Waste My Time

Here's two poems I wrote a while back. I hope you enjoy.

Edge of Sanity

On the brink of death,

The anguish flying south.

The tortured sparrow takes its breath.

Words of anger flees its mouth.

It's just a feeling, I tell myself.

It's just an age-old quest,

But what am I looking for, I ask myself.

When I'm at my worst is when I'm best.

Is this the edge of sanity,

Drowning in the pain?

Indecision comes over me.

My reason gone again.

Blind inside the darkness,

This cave safe and warm.

I long for the sunlight,

But it never comes.

Take me to the place

Where the dead are reborn.

Flying into the face

Of heaven as they're sworn.

But I feel as if I'm on the edge of sanity,

Devoured by the rain.

Ambivalence holds the sight of me.

My will has gone again.

One the edge of sanity,

I plead, “How can this be?”

All the time ignoring

That important part of me.

Don't Waste My Time

I see you driving down the street in that shiny new Buick.

With a cupie doll hanging on your arm.

Her savage giggle makes me sick,

As my brain sounds an alarm.

Only last night did you pledge your undying love,

Or so I thought.

My faith you push to shove.

No more of this abuse, now you're caught.

So don't waste my time with your lies.

Don't look so surprised.

I found you out, and there's no place to hide.

Time to pay the piper for your vows unkind.

So I say, don't waste my time.

Now you come to say that I'm wrong.

These accusations all in my mind.

I still hear the tune of a sad song

Burning me up inside.

Why, oh, why was I too naive to know.

I remained the fool, but only 'til today.

Once you were head of your school.

Now, I leave you with nothing, in this is where you'll stay.

Don't cry for me now.

I won't work this time.

So don't waste my time with those lies.

Don't look surprised.

Now, the truth is out, and there's no place to hide.

Time to pay the piper for all your vows unkind.

Now that my innocence is slain.

I have just one thing to say.

Don't waste my time.
