VW Bug maintenance oil brake fluid air filter....

ROUTINE MAINTENANCE

1) Great deal is rightly said about the importance of routine maintenance, which can be divided into:

Lubrication

Every 3000 milles:

-change the egine oil and clean the oil strainer. -check level of brake fuid

Every 6000 miles: ( in additional to above )

-Gearbox. Remove the filter plug on the side  and check  the level. Top-up  neccessary.

-Oil door hinges and latches. -Check slidng door runners and the hinge link. -Automatic transmission. Check the level of oil in the final drive housing.  -Grease the four points  on the front suspension cross-tube and steering damper. -Change engine oil filter.  fit new one.

Every 18000 miles: ( in additional to above )

-Check lubrication of front suspension, front hubs and steering linkage.

-Repack constant velocity joints if neccessary.

-Check lubrication of rear hubs.

Route inspection:

Every 6000 miles:

-Check tapet clearance. -Check distributor points and whell angle. -Adjust idling speed. -Inspect brake pads. -Inspect brake shoes. -Inspect steering linkage and measure free-play. -Check free-travel of clutch pedal. -Adjust alternator and air pump belt tension.

Every 12000 miles:  ( as above plus )

-Relace contact breaker points. -Fit new plugs. ( or serviced ones )  -Check rotator cap, and leads of distributor. -Test headlamp bulbs and replace if neecesary. -Remove battery for servicing and charging. -Clean filters on fuel pumps.

Every 18000 miles: ( as above for 6000 miles plus )

-Checkstarter motor brushes. -Check alternator brushes and charging rate. -Service air cleaner and check air flaps. -Change automatic transmission fluid. ( arduouns operaion )

Every 24000 miles:

Change filters on air pump. -Check recirculation exhaust valve. -Lubricate carburettor linkage.

Every 30000 miles:

-Renew Transmission fluid - normal operation. -Renew servo air filter (earlier in dusty climates)

Every two years:

-Renew brake hydraulic fluid.
