Two stars went home tonight, one by choice, one not. Drama and disappointment for some and relief for others wa the hallmark of the evening as week 3 of Dancing with the Stars comes to an end.

Thirteen couples faced the results of viewer voting on the third week of Dancing with the Stars Tuesday night during the elimination round. Most would return though some would not.

Tom Bergeron narrated a video recap of the stars’ performances and the judges’ scores from Monday night. This week’s repeat performance selected by the judges was the unlikely and ungainly samba by Chuck Liddell.  As if it wasn’t bad enough Monday, we had to sit through it again. Perhaps the judges feared the Iceman’s reprisal if they didn’t let him dance again.

Queen Latifah opened the musical portion of the show accompanied by professional dancers Cheryl Burke and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

As revealed yesterday, Tom DeLay has suffered stress fractures in both feet. Though he gamely performed last night, he announced on Tuesday that he would be dropping from the competition. Host Tom Bergeron invited him to return for the season finale if he was recovered enough to perform the dance he would have performed next week, the Texas two-step. He graciously accepted the invitation.

We next learned that of the three top scoring women, Mya and Natalie Coughlin were safe and that Joanna Krupa was in jeopardy.

Following a short break, the top scoring men learned their fates: Donny Osmond, Louie Vito and Mark DaCascos were spared but Aaron Carter was in jeopardy.

The celebrity dancer from a previous season was chosen for the Macy’s Design-A-Dance to be aired later this season. Voters Chose Sabrina Bryan, the season 5 favorite who, to date, is remembered for her extraordinary skill on the dance floor and her unbelievable elimination in week 6. Next up will be the viewer votes for male dance professional to partner with Sabrina. I can only hope her former partner, Mark Ballas, is chosen. The chemistry they had on the dance floor was electrifying.

Macy’s Stars of Dance presented Jabbawockeez, a hip hops style dance crew that performed an impressive number to Gene Kelly’s Singin’ in the Rain. They were joined toward the end of their number by 2 mystery dancers who tuned out to be Mark Ballas and Lacey Schwimmer. This was one of the better performances in the Macy’s series.

Queen Latifah sang Ease on Down the Road from The Wiz.

Steve Wozniak, a former contestant and math wiz, along with Matthew Berry of ESPN who favors statistical analysis and a toddler did a spirited segment on how best to predict the next Dancing with the Stars champion. Wozniak picked either Osmond or Mya while Berry picked Coughlin or Carter. The toddler picked from a bulletin board the photo of a blonde female but that’s as precise as she got.

The remaining three lowest scoring females found out where they stood. Kelly Osbourne and Melissa Joan Hart were safe while Debbie Mazar discovered she was in jeopardy again.

At last the four couples placed in jeopardy learned who was going home. When the drums stopped beating, Debbie Mazar was given her walking papers.
