People are so busy, trying to squeeze everything into a day. Even for health minded people, exercise may be the last thing on the list. Getting in shape doesn't have to consume all your time. It is possible to get fit 5 minutes at a time.

For people whose time is stretched to the limit, or those with chronic pain or chronic fatigue, it may seem impossible to ever get in shape.

By exercising several times a day in small increments, it is possible get in shape without harmful side effects, or disrupting a busy schedule.  These simple steps can make fitness goals a reality.

Gather Necessary Exercise Gear

Exercise bands are small and can be used for a variety of exercises. If possible, an exercise bag can be stored somewhere at work.  Exercise equipment may be available at home or in a gym.  The key is to decide which equipment to use, and make sure access is available when it is needed.

Find a Place to Exercise

For privacy at work, an empty office or conference room may be available. Visiting a gym during lunch breaks is a possibility for those who can afford it.  If privacy is not a concern, a city park or outside space is good when weather permits. The Chinese perform Tai Chi every day right out in public as a way of life.

Make a Plan

Decide which exercises to do to get in shape, which can be done where, and when to do them. Getting into a routine is a good way to stay on track. Walking up and down stairs, or simply walking is something that can be done almost anywhere.

Time The Sessions

At first, more strenuous exercises, such as walking on a treadmill, may seem difficult to sustain for 5 minutes. If so, stop and start until 5 minutes of exercise has been completed. Determine how many repetitions of a certain exercise in are possible in 5 minutes, and keep notes to refer to elsewhere.

Find 5 Minute Spots of Time

Experts say that 30 minutes a day is enough to get in shape, so try to work in 8 sessions over the course of the day, making the first and last a warm up and cool down stretching session.

Find Personal Limits

If 8 sessions a day is too much, cut back to 4 and work up to 8.  Getting overtired and overstressed will only contribute to the desire to quit. 8 sessions a day is a destination, not a goal. There is no time limit to get in shape.

Consistency and Persistance Pays Off

Results may not show quickly, but don't quit. Getting in shape is a process, meant to increase health and fitness over time, not overnight.  Even small amounts of exercise, performed consistently, can achieve the required results.  Patience and persistence are the keys to reaching fitness goals.
