Your first job interview can be scary and difficult to plan for. Let me help you figure out what to wear and make the experience a bit easier.

One of the most important things to think about when preparing for your job interview is your appearance.  If you do not look presentable and professional you will not be considered for the job you are interviewing for. If you are preparing for your first job interview, this is especially true as you have little on your resume. This guide will help you to choose an appropriate look for your next job interview.  Included is advice on your outfit, hair, and makeup.  Good luck!

First we will discuss your outfit.  You will need a jacket in a neutral color that suits your skin tone, though grey is the best choice for all women.  Choose a jacket made out of weather appropriate material, but keep it simple.  Tweed or polyester fabrics are great choices.  Choose a pencil skirt that is just above your knee and no shorter.  Make sure the color matches your neutral toned jacket.  Also keep this simple, no patterns or designs.  You will need a basic blouse.   Choose one that is a solid color.  Pick a color that matches the rest of your outfit.  If you went with a grey jacket white is the best color for your shirt.  Hosiery is a must.  No bare legs or leggings to the interview.  Also, do not choose bright colored or patterned hosiery.  For your shoes, go with a medium heeled pump in a matching neutral color.  Keep any accessories small and simple.  No large handbags, unless it’s a briefcase, and no flashy jewelry.

Now we will talk about what to do with your hair.  If you have log hair, wear it up.  Never wear a ponytail to a job interview, or a scrunchie.  Pull it back into a bun, a braid, or a roll.  If you are just going to pull it back, secure your hair at the back with a large barrette.  If you have short hair, make sure your style is simple and clean looking.  Do not go overboard with the styling.

When deciding on your makeup you should go with options that are flattering and simple.  Some makeup is required, at the very least dust on a light colored blush, curl your eyelashes and apply one coat of mascara, and one coat of lipstick.  This is good enough, but you should try to look your best.  Avoid any makeup that is really bright, or flashy.  Also, avoid glitter or shimmer types of makeup, you want a matte finish.
