Tips to make your eyes look bigger with make up

The eyes are the most expressive feature on our face, so it makes sense to play them up. Make up and beauty applications can make the eyes look significantly bigger. Some of the best ways to make your eyes appear bigger include; tricks with eye shadow, mascara and eyeliner, shaping of the eyebrows, lash extensions and lash curling.

Eye shadow

Eye shadow can significantly enhance the appearance of your eyes. The key to big eyes is keeping your eye shadow palette light. This is because dark colors make features recede, but light colors bring them forward. A simple wash of one light shade over the entire lid is the most enhancing when it comes to size.  

Mascara

The right Mascara can help open up the eye area, look for a lengthening and curling style and focus it on the outside corner of the top lashes. This makes the eyes look more open and thus bigger.

Eyeliner

Applying white eyeliner to the inner lower rims of the eyes is an instant eye opener. Avoid using black eyeliner because it will only close your eyes in. If you want o define your eyes try a brown or grey liner on the outer thirds only. Make sure this is applied outside the lash line rather then on the inner lid. Using a dark eyeliner on the inner eyelid, especially inside the lash line will make your eyes look smaller.

Eyebrows

The space between your lash line and eyebrow can influence the overall impact of your eyes. Well defined brows can help create more space to work with when applying make up and this can therefore make eyes look bigger. So make sure that your arch is well defined.

Lash curling

Using a lash curler on your upper lashes can work wonders. The heated variety typically gives the most impressive result, but you can also heat a stainless steel lash curler with your blow dryer before applying to the lashes.  

Lash extensions

False eyelashes can even further open up your eyes and make them appear larger. For the most natural, size enhancing effect use individual false lashes on the outer corners of your upper eyelids. The outermost lash should be the longest and then they should gradually blend back into the normal lash line by the center of the eye. If you want to wear this look on a regular basis a semi permanent lash extension can be applied by a beauty therapist. These typically last between three to six weeks before they grow out with your natural lashes.

Always remember to take care applying any products or applications to your eye area because the skin is very delicate in this region.
