Crazy waves destroy everything in its path(source:Wikipedia)

A tsunami is a word that causes fear and death to whoever stands in its way. There is hardly any warning, and no defence.A beautiful paradise island or resort could be hit with tremendous, titanic force and cause untold death and destruction in its furious path.

Tsunami is derived from from Japan, which experiences these killer waves very frequently. These are caused by an underground earthquake which happens below the sea.The force of the earthquake is so strong that it causes huge waves on the surface, which can made many metres high. It's almost impossible to outrun the sheer force of water, and humans and animals alike get overwhelmed by the crazy energy and debris that such energy carries with them.

Tsunami. Waves of Death

Tsunamis have even made a whole island dissappear. In 1946, The island Hilo off Hawai got submerged with gargantuan 14 metre waves.Imagine if that sort of wave hit the local beach you go to.I'll be running fast.

Here's is a short list of the Destruction of the Tsunami

  • The ancient city of Alexandria devastated in 365 AD.Vessels at sea thrown 2 miles inland.

Heroes against the Tsunami Killer. The story of 10 year old Tilly Smith

Accorging to Wikipedia, '80 percent of tsunamis occur in the Pacific', and the warning signs for tsunamis are hard for people to predict.A little girl by the name of Tilly Smith, from England, was credited in saving people's lives in Phuket, Thailand, by noticing the warning signs, of the sea receding and the bubbling of the sea, from a lesson from her teacher regarding tsunamis. However, it's only a few minutes of warning.

Tsunamis Can they be stopped?

Any height is dangerous, but in 1993, Japan got hit a massive wave measuring 30 metres in height. This is comparable to a 10 storey building!. Japan has built tsunami barriers to avoid the problem, but the waves were way too high, and the killer waves nevertheless caused loss of life and destruction of wooden houses.

These tsunami walls help breaking the waves, but if the waves are too powerful, they can only provide limited protection.(Wikipedia)
