How to Recognize Symptoms Of Diabetes!
Concerned about diabetes? Let's learn a little bit about the disease.
Diabetes is,(put simply)a malfunction of the pancreas. The medical term is diabetes mellitus. I am sure we all know someone who has diabetes. It seems to be a scary disease which in most peoples eyes signals trouble. There are two types of diabetes; insulin dependent and non insulin dependent. The pancreas of a person who has diabetes may produce little or no insulin. In some cases the person is unable to use the insulin their body has produced.
Insulin is a hormone that helps the body to regulate the absorption of glucose by a cell in the body. What is glucose? Glucose is a simple sugar that provides the body' s energy needs. Extra glucose which your body may have, can be stored in the liver or converted over to fat and stored in fat cells in the body. When you have diabetes your body will have an elevated level of glucose.
Let's look at some of the symptoms of diabetes. Here are some examples.
Increased hunger.
Increased thirst.
Weight loss.
Fatigue.
Excessive urination.
If you have diabetes your body does not metabolize fat like it used to. When this happens, small blood vessels in the body can be damaged. Diabetes also hampers your bodies ability to fight off infection. Some people with diabetes are known to have urinary tract infections and women are likely to have vaginal yeast infections. Skin infections are common as well.
If diabetes is left untreated, it can cause blindness and kidney damage. Diabetes can also increase the risk of a heart attack. There are many other body complications that can occur that I have not mentioned. I encourage you to see your physician if you think you have diabetes or just want some questions answered that you may have about this disease.
In most cases,Diabetes is more prevalent as we age. Some cases are noticed at a very young age which concerns physicians due to the frequency of the disease and the diet of the American people today. The highest risk of the non insulin dependent type disease are women in middle age or elderly and being overweight. Women who are pregnant should also be screened for diabetes.
Now, how to deal with diabetes. The first thing that comes to everyone's mind is proper diet. A diet which is low in fats and sugars and high in fiber and complex carbohydrates can help you to keep your blood sugar at a more balanced level and control your weight. Try to eat your meals at the same time everyday. Exercise will burn off excess insulin.
A person on a low fat diet and who exercises may be able to prevent diabetes from developing. Give that some consideration if you are at a high risk for diabetes.
Another habit to reconsider is smoking. Don't do it! If you drink alcohol; do so in moderation. People who have diabetes suffer from poor circulation which is usually noticed in the feet because they are the farthest away from the heart. So choose shoes that fit well to prevent any skin irritation or skin ulcers.
lease see your physician if you think you may have diabetes.
