a short rant on whether new leadership will make any difference

Personally it makes no difference if we Canadians have Harper or Ignatiev as leaders except for the fact that we know about Harpers political  performance. Actually the latter has nothing to challenge Harper on, except for the fact that we have been bailing out the big auto companies. Wouldn't the liberals have done the same? The New Democratic Party has been seen as the party that will throw its support to whoever it feels is doing a better job. I would like to think that, although I am aware that this party would also like to have a majority too and make a change for Canada.

In the end we are happy with Harper if not by choice, then by default. Politics has led us to want different choices but the qualities of leaders is so similar that there would be no difference between them. We would still be running after American money investors, even invite former presidents to use Canadian turf as their podium. I would like to exercise my right to vote and do not like the conservative mentality at all, their thriftiness when it comes to spending for the arts, their ignorance when it comes to continued losses of young adolescents in an open ended, formerly undeclared war.

The distance between what the government is doing and what people want is also growing at an alarming rate. As I speak, I get the feeling that another human right is threatened. Billions of dollars have been spent on unnecessary bail outs and we still have the same politicians commanding us to contribute more; energy bills will increase while the average wage earner will not see a comparable increase in his pay. This will spell more poverty for low middle class people while richer companies will receive tax cuts and benefits that they always have. Nothing will really change in the way the Canadian government will rule because the way we deal with institutions will remain the same, only the rhetoric will make it look like real change has occurred. Sounds like a formula which will disenchant more youth because they will have less funds to attend higher educational levels. And all of this will happen even if we lick out the conservatives because the trend has been to disregard the average to low income earner and favor certain large corporations instead. What an imbalance and I am supposed to be enthusiastic about a new leader?
