Start the New Year by seeing some new movies. Find out what's in cinemas in January 2010.

January.  Christmas is over, and it’s cold and dark outside.  It’s a great time of year to go to the movies.  Here is a selection of the movies coming out in the new year.  These movies are all scheduled for release in January 2010.  So if you need to escape for a couple of hours, or if you’re looking for the right movie to take your date to, here are your choices.

When In Rome

Starring Kristen Bell (you might recognize her from TV shows like Heroes), When In Rome is the story of successful real estate agent Beth.  In fairy tale fashion, her love life is a disaster…until she visits Rome and visits “the fountain of love.”  Made by Disney, expect a feel-good romantic comedy perfect for a date or a girls day out.  This is a chick flick to welcome in the New Year with.

Daybreakers

This futuristic fantasy movie is set in 2019.  The earth is populated primarily by vampires, and the world is running out of blood.  The vampires are trying to find a way to survive, and so are the few remaining humans.  It stars Sam Neill (most recently in TV series Crusoe), Ethan Hawke (famous for his relationship with Uma Thurman and roles in movies like Gattaca and Before Sunrise), and Willem Dafoe (he’s been in movies as varied as Finding Nemo, Spiderman 3, and Antichrist).

The Back-Up Plan

Written by Kate Angelo (former writer and producer for TV hit show Will & Grace),The Back-up Plan is about a woman (played by Jennifer Lopez, who had a successful singing career before acting in movies like Monster In Law) who becomes pregnant through artificial insemination with twins.  Of course, after committing to life as a single mother, she meets her dream man (played by Alex O’Loughlin, most recently in the movie Whiteout).

Youth In Revolt

Based on the novel by C.D. Payne, Youth In Revolt is essentially a coming-of-age story about a teenage boy who copes with his parents’ impending divorce by trying to get his dream girl.  He becomes increasingly rebellious and ridiculous as he seeks to impress her.  It stars Michael Cera, who shot to stardom in the movie Juno.
