If you want to sell your books on Amazon, you're going to have to keep them in good condition. Strike that: You'll want to keep them in MINT condition. They'll sell faster that way and you'll be able to set a better price for them. Here's how to keep your books in tip-top shape!

  1. If you're dealing with a hardcover, keep the dust jacket in a safe place. Don't leave it on. When you sell a hardcover book, your customer is going to want to see that both the dust jacket AND the book itself are in good condition.
  2. When it comes to handling your books, treat them as delicately as possible. We readers have a tendency to "break in" a new book: dog-earing the pages, creasing the binding so that we can open the book wider, etc. This is fine and dandy ... as long as you're not planning on selling it! A good rule of thumb: Whether or not you plan on selling your books, always treat them as though you are. You never know when you're going to need the cash
  3. Half the battle comes down to storage. Invest in sturdy bookcase. Avoid leaving your books wherever. Get into the habit of re-shelving them once you're done using them.
  4. Have A LOT of bookmarks at your disposal, so you won't have to dog-ear your pages. You don't even have to buy fancy bookmarks; a pack of index cards works just as well and can come in handy if you like to read more than one book at a time
  5. Always close the book once you're done reading it. Never make the mistake of leaving it face-down on your page, even if you're coming right back to it. Save your place with a bookmark and close it. EVERY TIME.
  6. Basic hygiene and table manners on your part can help preserve the quality of your books. Keep your hands washed and sanitized before you pick up your book. And if you like to eat or drink while reading, exercise caution and keep some moist towelettes or napkins handy. For best results: Wear a pair of latex gloves when you read. It's a bit excessive, I know, but your books need to be in excellent shape for them to sell quickly and at a good price.
  7. When it comes to actually selling your books, always opt for Amazon, NOT eBay. It's far more user-friendly and you get your money fast. To learn more about selling your books on Amazon, see the link below
