Relive the drama, relief and disappointment as the stars learn their fates on the results show for week 2 of Dancing with the Stars.

The second week of Dancing with the Stars moved to the dreaded Tuesday night elimination round. Still the largest cast for the show, fourteen stars and their partners took the stage to once again meet their destinies as one by one they learned if they danced well enough on Monday to return for week 3.

Tom Bergeron narrated a video recap of the stars’ performances and the judges’ scores from Monday night.

As has become tradition, the results show opened with a repeat performance of the judges’ favorite dance number from Monday night’s dance routines.    Mya and Dmitry Chaplin were chosen by guest head judge Baz Luhrmann to dance their “knockout” jive.

Dancing with the Stars generally avoids any discussion of voter scores. Viewers are not told how the couples fared after the voting was tallied. Tonight, in a slight departure from past shows, the couples were told in order, from highest to lowest based on the judges’ scores only whether or not they were safe. Monday night’s three top scorers, Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson, Mya and Dmitry Chaplin and Aaron Carter and Karina Smirnoff all learned they were saved.

The remaining eleven couples were all separated by just three points, the closest point spread in the history of Dancing with the Stars.

Joss Stone sang a song from her upcoming album, Color Me Free due out October 20th. Viewers were given a behind-the-scenes look at the new rehearsal studio being built for Dancing with the Stars. Following that, we learned that Mark DaCascos and Lacey Schwimmer and Natalie Coughlin and Alec Mezo had also survived to dance another round while Debbie Mazar and Maksim Chmerkovskiy were in jeopardy.

Selena Gomez from the Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place sang a number which professional dancers Derek Hough, Karina Smirnoff, Cheryl Burke, Dmitry Chaplin, Anna Tebunskaya and Louis Van Amstel all performed to.

It was the night of the big hair as co-host Samantha Harris and professional dancer Kim Johnson book ended Donny Osmond and nearly obscured him from view with their hair. Host Tom Bergeron later quipped that the two robustly coiffed women reminded him of sexy chia pets.

Next up were Joanna Krupa and Derek Hough and Michael Irvin with partner Anna Demidova who learned they were voted on to next week’s show. Following a short break, the next batch of dancers faced the music to discover that Chuck Liddell and Anna Trebunskaya, Melissa Joan Hart and Mark Ballas and Kelly Osbourne and Louie Van Amstel were safe. Louie Vito and Chelsie Hightower found out they were in peril.

The pros talked a little about what it’s like to work with a new star each season. It seems each brings some bad habits to the rehearsal halls that most be broken before the dancing can be taught. Natalie Coughlin holds her breath while dancing as though she were swimming. Mark DaCascos talks to himself and tunes out his partner. Debbie Mazar talks incessantly. Eventually, the habits get broken and the dancing can begin in earnest.

The only college marching band to have 2 platinum records, the USC Trojans Marching Band took the floor from outside the studio in a marching procession and played as their dancers and those from Stomp the Yard put on a dancing show of athleticism and amazing balance. Joss Stone sang The Son of a Preacher Man before Dancing with the Stars got down to the few remaining stars.

Both Tom Delay and Kathy Ireland had the lowest judges’ scores. Tom learned he and partner Cheryl Burke had slipped through to the next round while Kathy and Tony Dovolani joined the other 2 couples in jeopardy. With the three remaining couples left and tension building, Louie Vito was told he had another chance in the ballroom. Kathy Ireland and Debbie Mazar together with their partners faced the final drums of fate, waiting that interminably long minute to find out that Kathy Ireland was this week’s cast away. She said her goodbyes, with the same grace and poise he had shown throughout her short stay.
