Home remedies for gas pain

Gas is a natural part of the digestion process, but for some people gas pain can be particularly troublesome. Gas pain occurs when gas is present in the intestines. It can cause sharp pain, cramps, or an uncomfortable feeling of pressure in the abdominal region. There are several home remedies that can help relieve the symptoms and occurrence of gas pain.
The following are a list of some of the most common home remedies for gas pain:
Fennel
Fennel aids digestion by helping to regulate the contractions that take place in the small intestine. This in turn aids the removal of gas and can therefore diminish gas pain. You can buy Fennel as a tea, in a capsule formula, or even chew on the seeds.
Ginger
Ginger helps the body to digest many types of food, because it creates digestive enzymes. It also possesses carminative properties that help rid the intestines of trapped gas. You can try drinking ginger tea, add fresh ginger to your cooking, or look for a ginger supplement.
Dandelion tea
Dandelion also helps with the removal of toxins from the body. Many companies offer stomach soothing tea blends that combine teas like dandelion, peppermint, fennel and ginger.
Tumeric
Tumeric is another natural carminative that helps rid the intestines of gas. It has been used in Chinese medicine and Ayurveda to treat digestive difficulties for many years. Tumeric can be purchased as a powder that you can add to food or drink or in capsule form.
Alterations to your diet
There are certain foods that produce more gas then others. Some people notice an improvement when they steer clear of beans, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and other high gas producing foods. Make sure you avoid consuming of artificial sweeteners, because these contribute to increased gas in many people. Also avoid drinking carbonated drinks like soda.
Breathing effectively
One of the most common causes of gas pain is swallowing too much air. It can be particularly effective to practice breathing exercises that focus on breathing in and out through the nose. This will prevent you from taking gulps of air in through the mouth. Also make sure you chew slowly when you eat.
If you’re gas pain becomes debilitating or accompanied by other symptoms such as; nausea, blood in the stools, a change in weight, or chest pain, it is advisable to seek medical assistance. In some cases gas pain can be a symptom of a more serious condition such as Crohn’s disease.
