Give Your Closet a Makeover
Find and display all of your clothes and accessories with these easy tips.
Are you one of the many people that go to your closet and stands there staring before you begin to dig and dig just to grab the first few things you get your hands on? Conventional closet spaces often do not give us the ability to see what all we own. Just like ourselves, our closets could use a makeover from time to time. These easy tips will help you to glam up your closet and your bedroom allowing for more fashion statements to come out of them.
First we are going to rethink storage and decoration. Most women don’t even dream of adding deco to their closets, but we should. We also do not think of storage as anything but functional. Storage does not have to be just a place to put things, especially in this case. Another idea most of us don’t realize, is that our fashion items and our belongings can decorate our living space when they are not decorating us.
Now we get to the fun part. Here are some great ideas that will have your wardrobe looking better to you then it ever has. In order to decorate your closet you will need to make some room in it. The cluttered closet just doesn’t properly serve its function and it looks terrible. Take all of your clothes, jewelry, belts, scarves, etc. out and look at them. If there is anything you can’t or won’t wear or is broken or damaged, get rid of it.
With the closet empty we have the opportunity to asses its potential. If your closet has no shelving and one rod, you can add a lot to it. Add an extra rod half the length of the rod already there and about half way between the first rod and the floor. This will give you space for long dresses and jackets as well as give more storage space for shorter things to hang. Depending on the amount of space between your top closet rod and the ceiling you may add one to three shelves. This will give even more storage space which you will need.
On the side of your closet that you hang your longer clothing items is a great place to put your shoe collection. You larger boots can go on the floor under your dresses and you can create great storage on the wall next to the boots. You can either hang shelves or get a shoe storage that you can affix to the wall. If you hang shelves consider putting up a very pretty wall paper up first. I would get see through plastic shelves for this but any will look great. Set your shoes on display right here. Keep any wall coloring in your closet to neutral colors. I also recommend hanging shelves half way down the wall opposite the one you are displaying your shoes on.
You now have a great deal of shelf space to fill up. Get some trays, clear cylinder containers, some book ends, some drawer knobs, some statuettes, and other fine things to help the process. If you don’t have enough shelf space for all of your wonderful accessories, look to the lamp shades, and flat surfaces around your room. Display your jewelry on trays and your statuettes; put your clutches inside book ends, store scarves, gloves, and belts in clear containers and on trays. Put these things on your shelves. Hang drawer knobs on your closet door or bedroom walls to hang some of your wonderful things. Voila, you now have a functional and beautiful closet. Have a great time with all of your wonderful fashion pieces you can now see.
