Angina. Symptoms, Treatment and ways you can minimise your risk

Angina is caused when the supply of oxygen-rich blood to the heart becomes restricted. This can result in chest pain. Angina attacks are often triggered by physical activity or stress. Many people with Angina can lead perfectly normal lives with the correct treatment and lifestyle.

Risk factors for Angina include:
  • old age
  • smoking
  • obesity (work out your BMI here)
  • a high-fat diet
  • diabetes
  • family history
Symptoms of Angina include:
  • chest pain
  • breathlessness
  • nausea
  • fatigue
  • light headedness
  • restlessness

Treatment for Angina ranges from medication to surgery depending on the severity of the case. The individuals case will need to be considered by a GP or specialist before any treatment is started. Angina is a cardiovascular disease so there is an increased chance in the sufferer having a fatal stroke or heart attack. There are many preventive measures that can be undertaken to significantly decrease the risk.
