How to Find Search Engine Optimization Firms

There are a lot of independent contractors out there that do SEO for various sites, but if you actually want a search engine optimization firm it can be difficult to find a one stop shop for this service. The benefit to using a firm rather than an independent contractor is that the firm will have most of their services done in house, where a contractor will have to sub-contract services like directory submission and social bookmarking tools. Additionally a firm will have a number of individuals willing to share information so they can produce a better product. Here are the best steps for finding search optimization firms.

  1. Let’s get the search engines out of the way. Do not trust testimonials or reviews found via search engines because you are likely to just get a bunch of websites created by the firms…this is what they specialize in. This means they will have biased information. Rather use this method to compile a list of the bigger firms with their associated services.

  2. Pick a few that are offering services you might want to do. Search for SEO forums. There are several large forums completely dedicated to SEO and most of them will have a section for search engine optimization firms. These forums will be packed with information about those top firms that you found. Remember that some people may have had a bad experience, so trust the general publics’ review. A few bad things are to be expected since SEO is just not an exact science.

  3. Go to Yahoo Answers and Answerbag and check for reviews there. If there isn’t one simply ask the question, “Can anyone recommend a Search Engine Optimization Firm.” In general the fear is that you will receive a response from someone who works for one of these and it will be biased, but that is highly unlikely. Once you find someone who has some experience in the field, try to pick their brain about it. Most people are happy to share their experiences in this area.

  4. Purchase an eBook on the subject of SEO. Many of these offer referrals for certain search engine optimization firms. They will not all offer it though. Many only are offering information on free or inexpensive services. However these can be useful to you as well. The better your understanding of SEO, the less likely you are to get hosed by a search engine optimization firm.
