Panji Wulung Folk Story of Indonesia, it's truly Indonesia

Once upon time in the peak of denselyforested hill of Wonogiri, Java Island, live a wise and powerfull hermit. His name was Ki Kesdik Wacono.

One day, Ki Kedik Wacono received a guest from Demak Kingdom, Raden Panji, to convey a message from the King of Demak. The King wanted some deer from him.

Ki Kesdik Wacono agreed with the king's request and gave Raden Panji a pierce of bamboo. Ki Kesdik Wacono reminded Raden Panji not to open the bamboo during his journey back to the Kingdom of Demak.

When Raden Panji took a rest in the middle of the forest, he was tempted to know what the content of the bamboo was. When he opened the bamboo, there were tiny eight pairs of deers getting from it. But the deers got bigger and bigger, and run away in the forest.

Raden Panji chased afther the deers but he could not catch them. Ki Kesdik knew everything happened to Raden Panji in the forest, then he went to find Raden Panji there. Ki Kesdik found Raden Panji sitting under a tree, exhausted. He cried and apologized for his mistake.

Ki Kesdik punished Raden Panji for his unresponsible deed. Ki Kesdik said that Raden Panji would change into a purple(wulung) deer. Since then, Raden Panji who had become a purple deer, live in the forest called Wono Kethu in Wonogiri, Java Island, Indonesia.

PANJI WULUNG in Bahasa Indonesia

Pada suatu waktu, di puncak bukit hutan belantara Wonogiri, Pulau Jawa, tinggallah seorang pertapa sakti yang arif bijaksana. Namanya Ki Kesdik Wacono.

Suatu hari, Ki Kesdik Wacono menerima seorang utusan dari Kerajaan Demak, Raden Panji namanya, datang untuk menyampaikan sebuah pesan dari Raja Demak. Sang raja menginginkan beberapa rusa darinya.

Ki Kesdik Wacono menyetujui permintaan sang raja dan memberikan Raden Panji sepotong bambu. Ki Kesdik Wacono mengingatkan kepada Raden Panji agar tak membuka bambu selama perjalanan pulangnya ke Kerajaan Demak.

Ketika Raden Panji beristirahat di tengah hutan, dia tergoda untuk mengetahui apa isi dari bambu tersebut. Ketika dia membuka bambu tersebut, terdapatlah delapan ekor rusa kecil keluar darinya. Tapi kemudian rusa-rusa tersebut berubah menjadi lebih besar dan lebih besar, dan berlari masuk ke dalam hutan.

Raden Panji sudah berusaha mengejar rusa-rusa tersebut tetapi ia tidak dapat menangkapnya. Ki Kesdik mengetahui bahwa telah terjadi sesuatu terhadap Raden Panji di dalam hutan, kemudian ia ingin mencari Raden Panji di sana. Ki Kesdik mendapati Raden Panji sedang duduk di bawah sebuah pohon, keletihan. Dia menangis dan memohon ampun atas kesalahannya.

Ki Kesdik menghukum Raden Panji atas perbuatannya yang tidak bertanggungjawab. Ki Kesdik berkata bahwa Raden Panji akan berubah menjadi seekor rusa yang berwarna ungu(wulung). sejak itu Raden Panji berubah menjadi seekor rusa ungu dan tinggal di sebuah hutan bernama Wono Kethu di Wonogiri, Pulau Jawa, Indonesia.
