Being in love causes even the most grounded person to behave irrationally. You may find yourself taking heed of these superstitions even if you never would have before - if the spell of Love is upon you!

These superstitions have been handed down through the ages, from mother to daughter to granddaughter, and though we may think them silly, no tradition lasts without reason We like to believe them, or least wonder at them, because it lets feel we may have a little power over love.  Whether this is true or not, I will leave up you.

If someone is sweeping the floor and sweeps over your feet, you'll never get married.

If you receive a knife as a gift from a lover, it means the relationship is in peril.

You shouldn't knit a pair of socks for a lover, unless you want them to walk away from you.

If you catch a ladybug, watch the direction it flies when you release it - that is the direction from which your husband will arrive.

If you tie a blue satin ribbon around your ankle, you will be kissed by the end of the day.

Soup that is overly salty means that the one who cooked it is in love.

If you drop a pair of scissors it is a sign that your lover may be unfaithful.

A swan's feather, sewed into your husband's pillow, will ensure fidelity.

When writing a love letter, it is good luck to finish it at midnight, and when delivering it, the best luck is to be had by the light of the full moon. If you wish not to quarrel, be sure not to drop the letter.
