Homemade Low Fat Fried Calamari

the easiest way to make delicious fried calamari for 6 people without spend a fortune

Difficulty: Moderate

 Things You'll Need:

  • Electric fryer or a 6" deep frying pan.
  • 2 quarts of vegetable oil, canola or sunflower
  • Half bag of all purpose flour
  • 3 pounds of fresh or frozen cleaned calamari with or without tentacles.
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 red peppers
  • 10 black olives
  • paper towels
  • pasta colander

Step 1

Cut the calamari tubes about 1/2 inch or a little less, making little rings, if you are using the tentacles do not cut them

  • Step 2

    after the cuts, wash them in the colander and let it sit in the fridge for about 3 hours having a plate underneath the colander for the extra water the wetness will make the calamari sticky

  • Step 3

    Cut the red peppers in small pieces and also open the black olives getting rid of the olive bone or buy pitted olive

  • Step 4

    After the 3 hr. take the calamari from the colander hand put them in a plate because you will need the colander to shake away the extra flour before you fry them

  • Step 5

    Plunge a hand full of calamari in a deep plate with a handful of flour and mix it . Use the colander to shake the extra flour back into the plate. Make sure the oil is hot before you plunge the mix into it

  • Step 6

    After 7 - 8 minutes you can take the calamari out if they are golden brown and crispy. and 1 or 2 minutes maximum before that, you can mix the next portion of calamari and be ready to emerge them into the hot oil

  • Step 7

    Salt and pepper them as you wish in a plate with the paper towels to keep them warm, use the oven at 150- 180 degrees until you are ready to serve

  • Step 8

    Last step is to coat the red peppers and the black olives fry them using the same procedure and spread them out on top of the fried calamari and enjoy
