My Fish Story

Fishing is a hobby for me and enjoy it very much. This is my story, I hope you like it.

Fishing for me is a hobby of the heart, but many have taken on fishing as a competitive sports. As a sport people compete for cash and prizes in tournaments that last anywhere from a day to a week or even more. Even for them their hobby has turned into a way of life and a great way to make a living. I fish because it’s relaxing for my mind and spirit and after a day of fishing, I feel rejuvenated and refreshed.

As a fishing hobbyist like myself, there is never a bad day of fishing, because what you call a bad day of fishing, it sure beats the best days at work. I am sure people like myself will agree with me when I say; there is nothing like getting up in the morning very early and getting out there on the water and catching a fish. It’s a sense of independence that only a diehard fishing enthusiast can relate to, the drive to fish gets us out of bed very early on the weekends after a long hard week at work. People that cherish their sleep on the weekend may think we’re crazy, but if they don’t have the fishing spirit like I do, they wouldn’t understand how it is anyway.

I started fishing when I was a young boy and it took up the majority of my time, basically when I wasn’t in school or church I was out fishing. I guess it was a good thing; it kept me off the streets and out of trouble. Mainly because, when I was young video games and computers were nonexistent in my household, but fishing and outdoor sports were always on my agenda.

I particularly enjoyed salt water fishing due to living on the east coast. Whether I fished off the beach, the pier or under the bridge on the rocks I always knew I would have a great time and most of all, catch a lot of fish. I took my surf casting rods with 30 lb. test line and used mostly cut bait, squid and blood worms to fish the salt water.  The main species of fish that I caught in salt water were croaker, blue fish, flounder and an occasional small sand shark. I spent some great days and nights fishing the salt water and I had a great time, but I particularly enjoyed fishing fresh water ponds, lakes and streams as well.

I often took my old trusty Zebco rod and reels when I went fishing in the fresh water. I loved catching Bluegill, which I did all day long. But what I particularly loved to do is fish for large mouth bass. Oh yes, the true anglers fish to catch. I usually used live minnows with no weight on my line and let them swim naturally in a cove or by an old stump.  Large mouth bass always tend to hang out in shaded areas within old logs and under downed trees. When you hook a large mouth bass, the fight can’t be beat, because they are very strong fish that always jump out of the water when you’re reeling them up. My largest large mouth was 8 lbs.

I’ve told my fishing story for the benefit of everyone who has not experienced a nice day out on the water. I suggest trying it and finding out if it’s for you, I bet it will be for the majority reading this. Fishing is a fairly cheap hobby or sport to be involved in. I encourage everyone reading this article to try it and have fun every time you go out, so you too can tell your fishing story to the world like I have here.

I don't fish, but go with my daughter every chance I get. The sights are relaxing and I get to be with good company too. Well expressed composition, my friend. 5*
