How to Make Delicious Homemade Onion Rings with Dipping Sauce

this article will tell you how to make homemade onion rings and the dipping sauce for them. this sauce is just like the blooming onion sauce that you get in restaurants. they are fairly easy to make and are delicious.

Things You'll Need:
  • TO MAKE THE ONION RINGS
  • 2 large onions
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup corn meal
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • dash of black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water or beer
  • 1 egg
  • vegetable oil
  • ----------------------
  • TO MAKE THE ONION SAUCE
  • 1/2 mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons horseradish sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • pinch of black pepper
  1. Step 1 large mixing bowl

    TO MAKE THE ONION RINGS - to begin making the onion rings, get a large mixing bowl and add the ingredients in the following steps.

  2. Step 2 3/4 cup flour

    add 3/4 cup of flour.

  3. Step 3 1/4 cup cornmeal

    add 1/4 cup of cornmeal.

  4. Step 4 1/2 teaspoon salt

    add 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

  5. Step 5 dash of black pepper

    add a dash of black pepper.

  6. Step 6 1 egg

    add 1 egg.

  7. Step 7 1/2 cup water or beer if you want beer battered onion rings

    add 1/2 cup of water or you can substitute beer for the water, if you want them beer battered.

  8. Step 8 stir and mix ingredients well

    stir and mix all of the ingredients well.

  9. Step 9 place sauce pan on stove

    next, get a large sauce pan and place it on the stove.

  10. Step 10 cover bottom of pan with vegetable oil

    then, add enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom of the pan about 1/4 inch deep and heat over medium heat.

  11. Step 11 peel, slice, and seperate your onions

    while the oil in the sauce pan is heating, peel your onion and slice it from the side and then separate the rings.

  12. Step 12 dip and place in sauce pan to fry

    once the oil in the sauce pan is hot, dip your onion rings in the bowl of batter and place in the sauce pan. you can use a fork to do this. it is less messy.

  13. Step 13 flip with fork and fry both sides golden brown

    fry the onion rings until golden brown on the one side and then take the fork and flip them over. fry the other side the same way. both sides should be golden brown when you're done.

  14. Step 14 pat off excess grease with paper towel

    then remove from the pan and place on paper towels. pat off any excess grease and they are ready to eat.

  15. Step 15 mixing bowl for dipping sauce

    TO MAKE THE ONION SAUCE - to make the dipping sauce for the onion rings, get a mixing bowl and add the following ingredients:

  16. Step 16 1/2 cup mayonnaise

    add 1/2 cup of mayonnaise.

  17. Step 17 1 tablespoon ketchup

    add 1 tablespoon ketchup.

  18. Step 18 2 tablespoons horseradish sauce

    add 2 tablespoons of horseradish sauce.

  19. Step 19 1/4 teaspoon paprika

    add 1/4 teaspoon of paprika.

  20. Step 20 1/4 teaspoon salt

    add 1/4 teaspoon of salt.

  21. Step 21 pinch of black pepper

    add a pinch of black pepper.

  22. Step 22 delicious onion sauce

    once you have all of the ingredients in the bowl, mix and stir well. you can eat immediately or you can chill the sauce in the refrigerator for a bit. this sauce is delicious with blooming onions, onion rings, vegetables, chips, and also makes a delicious snack or sandwich spread. enjoy!
