Gasoline is one of the most inevitable expenses in the modern world. It should therefore be on top of the money saving agendas of every household.

Gas stations simply suck money out of your pockets. Unfortunately, there is no alternative to gasoline as of today. Ethanol seems to be far away from reality. Lets face it: we would be totally paralyzed without this volatile liquid. Read on to learn how to save some bucks on your gasoline purchase

Step 1

You may save as much as 5% on your gas purchases if you pay via a credit card at the gas station. This amount may look small but if you are buying gas worth of $3000 per year this could put $150 in your pocket from no where.

Step 2

Not all credit cards will give you a 5% cash back on gas. You have to search for them. If you have a BP visa you could get 5% deal but only at BP gas stations. Since there are BP gas stations every where, it won't take much of an effort to fill in your tanks.

Step 3

But be careful, you may loose more money than save 5% if some other station sold gas much cheaper than BP. Then even after 5% cash back you would have gotten a better deal at a non-BP station.

Step 4

OK, there are credit cards that give you 5% cash back no matter where you fill your tank. American express has come up with "Simply cash." But this is a business credit card for at least small business owners. However, if you have a business credit card like that there is no law that stops you from using it for your personal needs. As long as you pay your bills on time you are all set.

Step 5

If you have a good credit history it is not a bad idea to carry 2 or more credit cards, each giving a 5% cash back, though at different gas stations. Nowadays most gas companies offer credit cards with full 5% Cash back, some even go up to 10% for initial 2 month. Shell, Citgo and Mobil all offer such deals.

Step 6

I therefore suggest carrying cards from at least 2 different gas companies to give you little more flexibility and good cash back.
