People don't have the time to prepare the food Julia Child used to show on her cooking program. It's a different world. Food television has changed along with it, featuring easy dinner recipes instead of the fancy French cooking Julia made famous. These simple recipes don't have to be bland. In fact it can be quite exciting to eat these easy to prepare foods.

Dinner cooking ideas can be found in other places too. The Internet has a lot of meal ideas. Sure cooking shows have web sites but there's more than those. Simple meals, healthy meals, even meals cooked on car engines are featured. Even the most remote food subject has hundreds of web sites dedicated to it. A person could spend an entire life learning all of it.

Simple food doesn't have to be boring food. Simple meals aren't bad tasting. Hot dogs are easy, but maybe a little boring. Corn dogs are another story. Lots of people enjoy them and they're not hard to prepare. The batter is just corn meal, flour, sugar and salt with some milk as the liquid. Then fry until golden. Make it more authentic by inserting a stick.

But corn dogs aren't very healthy. Easy doesn't mean not healthy. Try a salad with some broiled chicken strips. That's a simple meal. It's also good for you. Try it with chicken soup. In fact a lot of soups are very healthy, and salads can be made from almost any ingredients. A salad can be dinner all on its own.

Now for some history. Dinner and supper started out as separate meals in colonial times. Physical work required a late afternoon meal, called dinner. The long hard day ended with a larger meal called Supper. Over time dinner and supper became the same meal. However supper and dinner are still separate for some people in 2008, especially for people who perform physical work.
