Make your own homemade bread crumbs with this easy to follow recipe. Stored in an airtight container they are ready to use for any of your recipes. Enjoy!

I love going to the Farmer's Market to pick up veggies and such for the week. It is always the freshest! At our local market we have a gal that makes the best bread - my fave is the roasted garlic. The bread rounds are baked to perfection with big pieces of garlic throughout! Yum!

We had a small hunk of the bread left at the end of the week so I decided to make breadcrumbs - I was heading to the Farmer's Market to get another fresh loaf anyway. This is super easy to do and preserves your favorite breads to use on other recipes.

Crumble the bread into a bowl (I ended up with 2 cups) - use your fingers to break apart the larger pieces.

Drizzle the crumbled bread with a good quality oil - I love extra virgin olive oil. Toss to mix. At this point you could add any spice of your choice.

Evenly spread bread crumbs on a baking sheet. And place in a 350 degree oven.

Toss the bread crumbs occasionally - making sure to watch them carefully so they do not burn. The bread crumbs bake to golden brown in about 10 - 15 minutes. Store your homemade bread crumbs in an airtight container.

These bread crumbs are best if you make them with a loaf of artisan bread. It crumbles nicely, bakes up golden brown, and stores well for all your recipes.

Variations - add:

Lemon zest with ground pepper

Cinnamon and brown sugar

Cayenne pepper and dried onions

Italian seasoning and Parmesan cheese

Your favorite seasonings and spices
