Get To Know the Twilight Characters, Vampire, Werewolf AND Human

Twilight is a modern day worldwide phenomenon that has young men and women alike longing to be vampires. Critics have said that this story is not well written and even that it is sexist and unrealistic. It is, however, written well enough to have entertained millions of readers and movie goers. Is it unrealistic? Perhaps, it is about vampires after all. Sexist? Traditionally in vampire stories, the main vampire is all about seduction. That's what vampires do. Male or female, someone always gets gooey for the vampire. If you are simply looking for entertainment, not an Oscar performance, then you will be pleasantly surprised by the movie. The book is an easy entertaining read as well. Here is a rundown on some of the characters that you will encounter.

Isabella "Bella" Marie Swan is played by Kristen Stewart. Bella is an odd teenage girl who moves to Forks, Washington from Phoenix, Arizona to live with her father. Her mother and step father are on the road and rather than travel with them, she has opted to live with her father. She meets and falls in love with Edward Cullen, who is a vampire.

Edward Cullen is played by Robert Pattinson. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 20, 1901. He is 17 and will remain so since he is a vampire. Edward was dying of the Spanish flu and Dr. Carlisle Cullen changed him into a vampire in order to 'save' him. He does not drink human blood, only animal. He reads minds but cannot read Bella's. He falls in love with Bella shortly after her arrival.

Jacob Black is played by Taylor Lautner. He is Bella's best friend. He is a Quileute Native American. He is also a werewolf.  Jacob doesn't have much of a role in Twilight. He has more of a story in future sequels. His major job in Twilight is to tell Bella tribal legends about the vampires. In Twilight, she does not know he is a werewolf.

Alice Cullen is played by Ashley Greene. Alice is one of the many vampires that have been adopted by Carlisle and Esme Cullen. She is a tiny spunky girl. She can see the future. She can see the future of humans and vampires but not werewolves. She is Bella's good friend. She likes to do girly stuff with Bella like shopping and make-up.

Carlisle Cullen is played by Peter Facinelli. Carlisle, also a vampire, is one of the town doctors. He is Esme's husband and the adoptive father of Edward, Rosalie, Alice, Jasper and Emmett. Carlisle is forever holding at age 23, but is in fact over 300 years old. He is tall, handsome and blonde. He is compassionate and teaches his clan of vampires to be so as well.

Esme Cullen is played by Elizabeth Reaser. She is Carlisle's wife and mother of the vampire clan. She loves to restore old houses and be domestic. Her age is stuck at 26 but she is over 100 years old. She lost a son in her human life, so she dotes on her vampire 'children' as if they were her own.

Rosalie Hale is played by Nikki Reed. She is the adopted daughter of Carlisle and Esme. She is forever 18 but was born in 1915. She is described as being the most beautiful person in the world. Rosalie is at first mean to Bella but this changes in due course. She wants very much to be human and have children.

Emmett Cullen is played by Kellan Lutz. He is Rosalie's husband and also a Cullen adopted vampire. He is tall, muscular and intimidating. He is forever 20 but is over 100 years old. Rosalie saved him from a bear attack and Carlisle changed him into a vampire.

Jasper Hale is played by Jackson Rathbone. He is also an adoptive Cullen son. He is forever 20 and is over 150 years old. Jasper lacks the self control of his fellow vampires. It is very hard for him to resist drinking Bella's blood. He has the special ability to have a calming effect on people. He was also a Confederate Soldier.

Charlie Swan is played by Billy Burke. He is human and he is Bella's father. He is also a police officer in the town of Forks. He likes to fish and watch sports. Charlie adjusts gradually to having his teenage daughter move in with him. He is a little hesitant at first of Edward being her boyfriend, but he warms up to the idea....somewhat.
