Earth a British-German-American Nature Film About Tragic Elements of Animal Life Now on Dvd

Earth, the critically-acclaimed 2007 British-German-American nature film is a beautiful, savage, sometimes heavy-handed film about animals and their often harsh life.

Much of the movie "Earth" is overly harsh and sad

Earth, the critically-acclaimed 2007 British-German-American nature film is a beautiful, savage, sometimes heavy-handed film about animals and their often harsh life. From the previews, I thought Earth was going to be a feel-good, informative, educational film. Not so.  Sure, there is some information about earth and its animals, and some of it is enertaining, but someone has decided people in the suburbs need a heavy dose of "the circle of life," so much of the movie is harsh and sad.

Desperate animals facing death

Really, I don't WANT to see a father polar bear starve to death, or a tiny deer attacked by a leopard, or a baby elk taken down by a wolf, or a seal chomped in half by a great white shark, or an elephant brought down by a pack of some 30 lions, each ripping and biting and clawing its way up the desperate elephant's legs and back.

Sad animal deaths

Narrated by James Earl Jones, Earth has some incredible cinematography, but this is far from being a family movie. The other thing I didn't like about Earth was the fact that frequently locations were not identified, once or twice the animals were not identified, and some other narration about things on the screen would have been informative. I know this movie did well in theaters and received wonderful reviews, but I can't recommend it unless you want your kids to have nightmares about sad animal deaths.

Earth was released internationally in 2007 and in the United States on April 22, 2009 by Disneynature. Earth released on DVD on September 1, 2009.
