A few easy ways to improve your photography composition.
Taking a good picture can be easy if you keep in mind the key elements of a great photograph; framing and composition. Before we start lets go over the definitions of these Key terms.
Composition is the way you set up the photograph.
Framing is using objects in the picture to create a frame around the subject. This is a good way to make a photograph look interesting and draw attention to the subject.
The most basic trick to good composition is called the rule of thirds. This is the idea that if you divided the picture into three parts horizontally and vertically (that makes nine equal parts total) the picture will look best if the subject is positioned on one of the points where the dividing lines intersect. This rule is great for beginners to get the hang of good composition but it is not necessary to make a good picture.
Experiment with different angles, framing and depth of field. The rule of thirds works because it makes you think about being creative with where you put your subject.
Look for the visual shapes or lines leading to your subject that are created by its surroundings. This will draw the viewers eye to it.
Try to find subjects that are meaningful, not just beautiful.
Study the work of established photographers such as the ones that work for Magnum Photos or National Geographic.
