Some of the best and most expensive collector’s items are works of art like paintings, sculptures and the likes.

Here’s a list of some of the most famous and greatest masterpieces of arts and where you can find them.

The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Hokusai

The Great Wave off Kanagawa, a famous woodblock print by Hokusai, was published in 1832. It is Hokusai’s most

 famous work. It depicts an enormous wave threatening boats near Kanagawa prefecture. As in all the other prints

 in the series, Mount Fuji can be seen in the background. Copies of this beautiful creation of art can bee seen in

 the Metropolitan Museum in New York City, British Museum in London and in Claude Monet’s house in France.

The Three Graces, a Neo-Classical marble sculpture by Antonio Canova depicts the mythological three charities,

 daughters of Zeus – Euphrosyne (beauty), Aglaea (charm) and Thalia (joy). This wonderful piece of sculpture is

 housed at The Hermitage in St. Petersburg - Moscow, Russia.

This awesome work of art entitled “The School of Athens” is one of the most famous paintings by Raphael. It was

 painted between 1510 and 1511 in the room now known as the Stanze di Raffaello, in the Apostolic Palace in the

 Vatican. The School of Athens has long been seen as “Raphael’s masterpiece and the perfect embodiment of

 the classical spirit of the High Renaissance.

La Giaconda by Leonardo

La Giaconda is perhaps the most popular painting in the world. It is popularly known as Mona Lisa, a 16th century

 portrait painted in oil by no less than the master himself - Leonardo Da Vinci. This masterpiece is owned by the

 Government of France and is on the wall in the Louvre in Paris.

The Birth of Venus by Boticelli

The beautiful painting called “The Birth of Venus” is housed at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. It is a painting

 by Sandro Boticelli that depicts the goddess Venus, having emerged from the sea as a full grown woman, arriving

 at the sea-shore.

The Night Watch is one of the most famous works by the Dutch painter Rembrandt whose complete name is

 Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn. This masterpiece is on prominent display in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam –

 the Netherlands. It is the museums most famous painting. The painting is renowned for three elements: its

 colossal size (363 x 437 cm ~ 11ft 10in x 14ft 4in), the effective use of light and shadow, and the perception of

 motion in what would have been, traditionally, a static military portrait.

Las Meninas by Velasquez

The intriguing Las Meninas by Diego Velasquez is Museo del Prado’s most famous work of art. Las Meninas

 means The Maids of Honor created in 1656 by Velasquez, the leading artist of the Spanish Golden Age. The

 work’s complex and enigmatic composition raises questions about reality and illusion, and creates an uncertain

 relationship between the viewer and the figures depicted. Because of these complexities, Las Meninas has been

 one of the most widely analyzed works in Western paintings.

Washington Crossing the Delaware by Leutze

This stunning painting entitled “Washington Crossing the Delaware” is housed at The Met in New York City. It is

 an 1851 oil-on-canvas painting by German American Artist Emanuel Leutze. It is in commemoration of George

 Washington’s crossing of the Delaware on December 25, 1776, during the American Revolutionary War.

La Maja Desnuda by Goya

This nude picture of a woman is said to be the first clear depiction of female pubic hair in a large Western

 painting. This controversial work of art by Francisco de Goya is one of the most famous paintings displayed at

 Museo del Prado in Madrid, Spain. The title “La Maja Desnuda” means The Naked or Nude in English. It is oil on

 canvas painting portraying a nude woman reclining on a bed of pillows. It was executed some time between 1797

 and 1800.

Hope Diamond

Well, don’t be surprise if this is included on the list; after all, jewelry-making is also an art. This unique work of art

 is called “The Hope Diamond”. This lovely piece of jewelry is popular for supposedly being cursed. It is a large,

 45.52 carats (9.10 g), deep-blue diamond, housed in the Smithsonian natural History Museum in Washington

 D.C. The Hope Diamond is blue to the naked eye because of trace amounts of boron within its crystal structure,

 but it exhibits red phosphorescence under ultraviolet light.
