Are you thinking about creating a special themed birthday for someone special? I have some experience in that. Years ago, I helped a friend plan a special parrot head themed party for her husband's 35th birthday.

The couple was huge fans of Jimmy Buffett as I am. Putting our heads together, the wife, and I came up with a special parrot head themed birthday that the husband would never forget. Planning this party was so much fun

.

The Invitations

We created the invitations using commercial software, which made it so easy. The front of the card showed a few palm trees with a man swinging in a hammock. We used a fun font to write on there Join us for a special surprise.

The inside was all the usual information, and asked the guests to come to a beach party. Of course, the beach party was at the local lake, which had acres of sand. Guests were encouraged to wear bathing suits, and sun tan lotion would be provided for the special parrot head themed birthday party.

The Food

Every one was asked to bring a dish to pass which not only saved her money, but there was a wide array of food for the guests to enjoy. Michelle and I did ask two people to man the grills and we invited a few more people to cook on the fire pits.

The main meat was of course cheeseburgers in paradise, which of course was named after the guest of honor's favorite Jimmy Buffett song. These were fully dressed cheeseburgers cooked fresh on the grill. The fire pits were kept full of grilled chicken, which had a nice glaze, which was made from a well-known whiskey.

There was so much food that we had to commandeer a few of the picnic tables. Of course, this meant less places to sit and eat but everyone adjusted. To keep the salads cool, we placed kiddy pools on the table and added ice. This kept everything at the right temperature, which is always a good thing.

The Music

We could have simply hired a DJ to play Jimmy Buffett music but she was able to secure a tribute band, which made the parrot head themed birthday party so much more fun. We passed the hat to hire the band for a few more hours, which was great. When the guests all chip in to have the band play longer, you know it is a special time.
