What can you do to save the environment? In addition to recycling aluminum cans, plastic and glass, there are some other green ways to save the environment.

Create your own natural cleaning products from vinegar and baking soda. Do not buy or use store bought cleaning products which contain hazardous chemicals and phosphates. Not only do these contaminants pollute the waters, they are unhealthy to humans and animals.

Set your computer preferences so that your monitor turns itself off after a designated period of time. This is a way to save the environment and save energy since the monitor uses much more energy than the computer itself.

Compost leaves, grass clippings and other yard waste and make a compost bin. You can also add kitchen discards such as vegetable peelings. By recycling this yard and kitchen waste you will be reducing the amount of garbage sent to the landfills and helping to save the environment.

Reduce or eliminate your junk mail. This is an enormous waste of paper. Contact the Mail Preference Service by visiting their website at http://www.dmachoice.org for information on how they can help you eliminate your junk mail. Junk mail may also be recycled along with your newspaper recycling.

One of the very best green ways to save the environment is to plant more trees. Trees help the environment by taking in carbon dioxide from the air and producing oxygen. This decreases global warming. Trees also diminish urban runoff of rainwater thereby reducing water pollution. Trees are also the home of birds and wildlife.

These are only a few green ways to save the environment. If everyone did their part, the environment could be greatly improved.
