Moving can be a very stressful task! Doesn't seem to matter how early you start you always seem to have a lot of last minute moving. I'm going to share some steps with you that might help.

Step 1  In a notebook, make an inventory of everything you own. Gather everything you no longer want and keep them separate. Have a garage sale, take them to a charity, or a thrift store (e.g. goodwill).

Step 2 Get all your moving supplies; boxes, markers, labels, tape, change off address forms, etc. Decide on whether you're going to move yourself or have a moving company move you.

Step 3 If you think you will need a storage unit, get it now. Gather all the stuff you will need into boxes sorted and labeled. I get them into storage. Decide whether or not you will need your bulk furniture or if you are getting new furniture.

Step 4 Make all your phone calls and complete your change of address forms. If you need, make a list of all the people you got to call and change your address with. (insurance, utilities, cable, magazines, newspapers, post office, etc.) Cancel anything you no longer want to receive. Transfer your bank account(s), if needed.

Step 5 Start your packing. Sort and label all the boxes so you know what is in them and where they belong. Review your inventory list and double check everything.

Step 6
Moving day: do any last minute things. Verify your inventory list. Let movers or anybody helping you about your breakables. Make your final check off for the entire house. Make sure rooms are clean and cleared of any belongings. Keep your inventory list to help with unpacking and to know what is in storage and where they belong.
