Stage Your Bathroom and Sell Your House

A few days ago I told you about how quickly our house sold after being staged. I told you what we had to do to the kitchen, now I'm going to tell you what we did in the bathroom.

Apparently the kitchen is number one in what a home buyer is checking out. If your kitchen doesn't pass the inspection, you could lose a sale. Second is the bathroom. So, here's what she did to ours!

1. She removed all of the towels from our bathrooms and replaced them with snowy white. She also mixed in one chocolate brown, but the majority were white.

2. Three folded white towels on the top of each toilet.

3. One "starfish" sat on top of the folded towels. I think that she picked these up at HomeSense or a similar home decorating store.

4. Everything was removed from the counters/vanities and I mean EVERYTHING.

5. She then decorated the counter with little  groupings of three items which often included one flower in a vase, a scented candle and a snowy white soap dispensor or something bathroom oriented.  Each of the bathrooms seemed to follow this rule of three, and none were decorated in the same way to keep it interesting. And oh yes, there was always a touch of brown in the room.

6. One bathroom had a shower curtain hanging from a rod. That was taken down and replaced by a heavy white material shower curtain that was put there just for looks. Have to admit... it did look better than the one I had hanging.

7. The floors were washed using a scented liquid that would shoot out of the mop. I can't remember the name, but it scented the bathroom and kept the floors freshly washed before a showing.

8. If you were buying a house, what kinds of things would turn you off when you checked out the bathroom. It might be a good idea to write them down and take the list into your own bathroom. Personally, I don't want to see any evidence of the bathroom having been used for ANYTHING. That means, shiny taps and no toothpaste in the sink for starters. And the seat has to be down!

9. If your bathroom looks 20 years old, there's a good chance that people will think that it's twice that old. You might want to see what you can update for the least amount of money. How about new taps??

So, that's off the top of my head. If I think of anything else, I will just nip in and add it to the list. We are getting ready to move and my thoughts are ALL over the place at the moment!
