Do you love those letter parents use to spell names in their children's rooms? They can be expensive, so here is a way to make your own letters for far less than you would have to pay in stores.

Things You Will Need:

  • Letters (can be purchased at stores like, Michaels, Jo Anne Fabric, Ben Franklin)
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Pretty Ribbon to match paint around 1-2 inches wide
  • Flat Thumb Tacks
  • A Good Strong Glue
  • Foam Paint Brush
  • Step 1

Get the letters you need to spell the name you want. You can find lower case or capital letters at most stores. Make them however you want, the first letter capital with lower case following, all capital or all lower case. By making your own letters you can have exactly what you want.

  • Step 2

Paint your letters with your acrylic paint and a foam brush. You may need a few coats depending on how you want your letters to look. Let the paint dry between coats.

  • Step 3

If you would like you can use stencils to paint a design or if you are able, freehand a design to create your own look.

  • Step 4

Once your letters are dry and painted the way you want them. Cut the ribbon for hanging them up.

  • Step 5

Figure how you low you want your letters to hang. Consider these directions include tying a bow, which will use up some of the ribbon length. About a foot of ribbon per letter.

  • Step 6

Attach one end of the ribbon to the far left side of the top of the letter with the glue. While the glue is still wet place a thumb tack in through the ribbon to secure it. Glue the other end of the ribbon to the top far right side of the letter and repeat with the tack. The ribbon should look like a loop on top of the letter.

  • Step 7

To tie a bow at the top wait until the glue is dry and then make a small loop, like you are tying a shoe at the top of the loop. Make another loop right next to the first one and make sure the letter hangs level if you pick it up by the loops. After the letter looks level, cross the two loops and tie them into a bow.

  • Step 8

Make sure the letter is level again and adjust the bow if needed. Continue until all letters are done.

  • Step 9

To hang the letters on the wall. Place a small nail through the middle of the bow and hammer into place.

  • Step 10

Now you have made your own letters for names on walls!
