So you think that you simply can't master the fine art of small talk??

Earlier this month I wrote an article on how to master small talk easily, but I'm sure that there are lots of people out there who still hate the idea of having to actually talk to people that they don't know. My best friend is one of those people and with that in mind, I thought that I would explore the topic further.

Surprisingly enough, my friend is extremely popular with a wide group of friends and one day we got talking about it and she told me something really quite surprising.

* "A lot of the time, you really don't have to do a lot of the talking at all. Most people simply wanted someone to listen to what they have to say." Was she talking about me, I had to wonder lol... Once I get to know someone, there's no holding me back ;) ...

* She went on to say that she found it important to stay on top of current events. "I turn on CNN every morning. You can absorb a lot of info while enjoying coffee, she winked at me"

* I think that her best piece of advice was..."Don't tell everything you know.Let THEM tell you everything that THEY know. You contribute when you have to, but just be a willing ear. They will think that you are amazing... and all you did was listen lol...

So, apparently you can be popular and not be the life of the party! And you might not even have to open your mouth!

I would say your friend is wise. Knowing how to get others to open up is important.

haha, that's true! All the "oh yes", "oh no", "so sorry to hear that" "is it?" are very useful in small talk
