Want to save money? Maybe this will help.

How to save money

I was going to make this a top ten list on how to save money, but really, I don’t know if there will be 10.  I could go back and just make a list with however many I do come up with, but I won’t.  It’s not so much that I’m lazy or that I don’t care about what I write.  It just doesn’t matter.  You came here to save money.  It’s not like the number one reason is the only one you’ll go with.  If you want to save money, you might go with the worst idea ever.  I might have that on here.  Who am I to decide what the best way is to save money?  So no numbers, just random spacing and parentheses to make it a little more eye catching.

-) Do you have a laptop but still pay for wifi in your home or apartment?  Is that saving you money?  Did you know that there is a good chance someone else is paying for wifi close by and doesn’t have some sort of security thing on it?  I’m not talking Starbucks, cause they are probably charging for that, but a lot of local businesses allow free access to their wifi in an attempt to add to a blanket of connectivity.  What I’m saying is, get off your butt and find a hotspot.  Get out of the house.  This will not only save you money, it will get you some exercise.  And maybe you’ll meet someone.  You can show them how cool you are by the fact you read snazzy Bukisa articles on how to save money.

-) Complain about your bill.  Seriously.  All bills.  This might sound like a weak way to save money, but call up the company that you have the bill with and tell them it’s too high.  It might not be, and you might be in the wrong, but you will be surprised how often they will work with you.  Call your cell phone provider and threaten to go to a different provider because your bill is always too high.  Don’t feel bad – the bill is probably too high, they are over charging you, and the people who own that company make more money than you do off of that.

-) Still have that laptop?  Want to really save money?  Get rid of cable and invest $12 in some cables from Best Buy or where ever that allow you to hook your laptop up to your tv.  Don’t know how to do that?  Google it and I’m sure you’ll find a bunch of how to’s.  Then you can take that how to knowledge, write an article on it, like I did on saving money, and get paid for it.  Now go to Ovguide.com.  I probably don’t even need to finish this article because you’ll never come back from that website.

-) Are you a gamer and hate spending money on WoW?  Are you a noob but scared to spend money on a game you know you suck at?  Save money by finding free MMO’s online.  Seriously, there are lists for days out there on the best ones to play.  Try F.E.A.R Combat for fun.

-) Learn how to cook.  That alone can save money.  Serious money.

-) Shop thrift stores.  I know, I know, you probably wouldn’t be caught dead in one, but there are name brand items in thrift stores.  Save money by finding clothes rich people don’t want any more.  Do you think poor people get rid of their things for others to buy?

-) Go to Big Lots, or a store like it and buy in bulk (but do the math to make sure you are, in fact, saving money).  Don’t know if you have a Big Lots or what that is?  Do some research.  Don’t have time to save money?  Make it a job.  For every 20 minutes you spend on something that ends up saving money, figure out how much money you made from it.  Maybe that will make it easier to save money.  Since a lack of money isn’t working.

-) Find articles on saving money that don’t suck.

Nice article. To augment your tips about lowering wireless costs (not to say that calling your carrier directly and complaining is a bad strategy), I wanted to add that I work in the consumer advocacy division of the company Validas, where we electronically audit and subsequently reduce the average cell bill by 22 percent through our website, http://www.fixmycellbill.com. Put simply, Validas guards against the frivolous and unnecessary charges that over-inflate an estimated 80 percent of cell bills. You can find out for free if fixmycellbill.com can modify your plan to better suit your individual needs by going to the website. For more info, check out Validas in the media, most recently on Fox News at http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/dpp/consumer/conlaw/lower_cell_phone_bills_072409 . Good luck to everyone reading on further reducing your wireless expenses in this tough economy. Dylan Consumer Advocacy, FixMyCellBill.com
