Niche marketing means you sell to a very small market that has very specific interest. Niche marketing means you are facing lesser competitors, and able to make great profits fulfilling the needs of your targeted customers.

It is not difficult to find a niche market.

The first step to niche marketing is to start from the broad interests group. You have to know the broad interests group, and find a niche market within the board interests group.

If you are an animal lover and a pet owner, this is your broad interest group. You cannot realistically cater to all pet owners of different animals. You have to dig deeper to find a niche market.

The second step to niche marketing is to consider the categories within the broad interest group. You can think of the categories within the pet ownership interest groups.

Do you want to cater to cat owners, dog owners or hamster owners? Do you want to cater to the aquarium fish owners or bird owners?

The third step to niche marketing is to dig deeper into a category to find a niche market. If you want to cater to the aquarium fish owners, you have to decide what fish you want to focus.  The discus pet owners are not interested in the breeding method of the goldfish.

The fourth step to niche marketing is to find out about the customers. You can do a keyword research using Google Adwords Keywords Tool.  You can find out how many people are looking for information using the related keyword. You can find out what the customers want to know.

Are they interested in the fish show? Are they interested in the breeding of the fish? Are they interested in the prevention of fish diseases?

The fifth step to niche marketing is to find out about the competitors. You can do a search using the keyword on the search engine to find out how many competitors are catering to this niche market. For example, you want to cater to owner of goldfish. You can check how many people are finding information about the different breed of goldfish.

You can find out how many competitors are providing information about the different breed of goldfish. You can decide if the demand (people looking for information) outstrip the supply (number of competitors).

You should check out the competitor websites. See if you can do better. Ask yourself the following questions:

Do you have the interest and expert knowledge of the subject matters? Are you able to do research, write articles, and sell products to convince the pet owners that you are a subject expert? Is there any physical product that you can sell through your website? Can you link up with various veterinary services to provide value-added service for your customers?

If you are passionate about the subject matter, you can make a profit from the niche marketing. Your customers can provide more ideas for you to make money, once you gain their trust.
