How to Bridge a Wireless Network with an Apple Airport Extreme or Time Capsule for Mac or PC

Many people are starting to make a switch to mac computers from pc computers these days. If you already have a wireless network and want to add an apple time capsule or airport extreme it may be easiest just to bridge the connection. Here is how you can do it.

The first thing you should do is turn off the power to your existing wireless router as well as your internet service providers router. From the back of the wireless router insert a Ethernet Cable into one of the available ports that you would usually connect a computer to. These ports are almost always numbered.

Take the other end of the ethernet cable and plug it into the Wide Access Networt  or W.A.N. port on the apple time capsule or airport extreme base station. This is the port with the green circle above it. You can now run a Ethernet cable from the airport extreme or time capsule to your computer.  If you are setting up your network up with a wireless capable computer you do not have to run the cable.

Now plug in the airport extreme base station or time capsule and turn on your wireless modem. Wait for a second until all have powered on and then rebooted.  It will take a couple of minutes for them to reboot. After the modems have rebooted you can run the apple airport utility disk that came with the time capsule or airport extreme. It will work on both pc or mac computers. Follow the simple on screen instructions and select bridge only mode for the apple modem. It will take a few minutes for the apple modem to reboot. When the airport extreme or time capsule has finished rebooting and is connected the light on the front will turn green and stay on.  Now you have bridged your modems and you have internet access all over the house.
