Living with a pepsi addiction

Do you or someone you know live with an addiction to Pepsi or other soda? Addictions to soda are a very hard thing to beat and there are no self help groups like AA or A to help you.

Is there truthfully an addiction to Pepsi? Is there such a thing as being addicted to Pepsi? You bet there is and I am living proof. My addiction to Pepsi started out of pure need about ten years back and this is my tale.

I ran out of coke, so I went to the local grocery store to restock. They were out of 12 packs, and I do not enjoy the 2 liters or bottles of soda so I tried Pepsi. I tried the Pepsi because it was caffeine in a can, which is what I craved.

Now it seems as if everyone in my town has switched as well over the years, because Pepsi packs or cubes are sometimes out of stock.  I love those cubes. They are full of pure drinking pleasure. That is unless of course the cube is a mass of flat soda because some careless transporter threw it around and shook it up.

I will purchase Pepsi in the two-liter bottles when I have too, but it’s not my first choice.

I have to feed my addiction and let me tell you coke and Pepsi do not compare. When I am at someone’s house and I am offered a coke, I will drink it. However, I do not enjoy it because it tastes so sweet.

Honestly, coke does seem very sweet to me. I know the cans say coke and Pepsi have about the same amount of sugar but it seems to me that coke tastes sweeter. Perhaps the mix of the ingredients makes coke taste different from a delicious Pepsi.

I find myself feeding my addiction on a daily basis, if you don’t think it’s an addiction think again. I am one of those people who crack open a Pepsi first thing when I wake and I usually take one to bed with me to sip on should I wake.

On my desk in my home office, there is always a can of Pepsi, which does not help with the addiction. It does however keep away the headaches I get when I run out. I know addictions are never a good thing to have, but I would much rather be addicted to Pepsi than crack.

I grabbed a Pepsi cooler off eBay years ago and that became my lunch pail when I worked at the nursing home. It was great it held my lunch an ice pack and four to six of my drug of choice. I worked twelve-hour shifts and that cooler kept my Carmel colored treat nice and cold so I could enjoy it at work.

Some people will say that you cannot get addicted to Pepsi or any other type of soda, but I am living proof. The caffeine withdraw headaches are awful, and to avoid them I must feed the addiction. It is like having a little monkey on your back screaming that I had better drink the Pepsi and saying if you do not then I will smack you in the head until you get the headache.

My friend Tammy is addicted to diet Dr. Pepper and you can read about her story here.

I enjoy my Pepsi, too, but try not to drink too much. I do pretty good not buying it for myself, but when my daughter brings a case home, watch out!
