How to make your computer run faster. Maintenance tutorial.

Remove some unnecessary start up programs.

Open the Start button.

Click the Run button.

Type "MSCONFIG" and press OK.

It will open the System Configuration Utility. You will see a number of upper buttons under the name bar: General, System.ini, Win.ini, Boot.ini, Services.ini, Startup, and Tools.

Click Startup.

You will see near the item's names some small boxes with a green V inside. The boxes with green V mark the Enabled programs.

Click the boxes to unselect the programs you don't need and click the Apply button.

Now your Computer will start faster.

Boot Defragment and Disk Defragment.

We all use our computer's memory at full capacity. Installing, uninstalling, deleting, copying, all kind of processes. All those processes might cause some "memory holes" on the hard disk. These holes are wasted missed space and sometimes you need to rearrange your files. Think of a drawer. If you shove in your clothes chaotically the wont fit all. If you put them nice and arranged they will fit.

It might take a time, depending of how many files you've got but it does its job well.

Boot Defragment:

Open the Start button.

Click the Run button.

Type "REGEDIT".

It will open the Registry Editor.

You will a list on the left.

Select +HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

Select Software.

Search in the list for Microsoft. Open it.

Select DFRG.

Select BootOptimizeFunction.

Click Enable.  And set the value to Y.

Done.

Disk Defragment.

Open the Start button.

Select All programs.

Select Accessories.

Select System Tools.

Select Disk Defragmenter.

First Analyze your Disk then Defragment. You must have at least 15% free space.

The Disk Cleanup.

Clears out old an unnecessary files.

It can be found in the same place as the Disk Defragmenter.

Desktop Clearing.

Try to delete or move unnecessary desktop files. It makes the PC look nice and you don't have to waste time on finding a certain item.
