Where do these cars come from? Cars involved in crimes, or that belong to criminals, are often impounded. Drug dealers, for instance, can lose everything they own if caught. When these cars are taken it isn't long before it's time to sell them for a little cash. Scoff laws also generate a lot of cars. The car is offered for sale when the fines reach a point that the owner can't pay.

Dealerships often sell or in turn auction off cars they purchase at auctions. Or auto auctions might buy them and then sell them in turn to the highest bidder. This isn't important. At some point the car is up for sale to the highest bidder and can become a whale of a deal for a savvy person. However, there are some things to consider. As the saying goes it's "buyer beware."

There's usually no warranty offered with these autos. {It's a case of what you see is what you get|You buy the car that's on the lot|All sales are final and it's up to you to do the homework". That is, in the auto industry, "as is." The seller can even engage in puffery in most states. That's making non specific positive claims about the car such as "it's a great deal" or "you'd be foolish not to want to drive home in this beauty." Some key words like "clean" or "like new" are also involved. These sound like specific descriptions or even promises of a well working auto. What they really come down to is "there's a sucker, let's make the deal."

Be ready when attending. Take a good look at the cars. If you're not wise with cars, invite an expert to accompany you. Auctions offer test drives so use them. Impounded cars for sale can be a bargain. But remember that if it seems too good to be true it usually is.
