Have you discovered the magic of make up highlighter? When applied correctly, make up highlighter can subtly alter the shape of your face giving it a more classically oval appearance. Highlighter can also be used to downplay a wide nose and accent high cheekbones. You'll find endless uses for this versatile cosmetic. Here's how to apply highlighter to make your face look its best:

Apply make up highlighter: Choose your highlighter and application tool.

Although highlighter comes in a variety of forms, the easiest to apply is the powder form. It also tends to give the most natural look To apply highlighter effectively, the best tool to use is a large powder brush. This can be purchased inexpensively from your local drugstore. These brushes are so versatile you may want to pick up a few to have some extras on hand.

Apply make up highlighter: Apply foundation first.

After cleansing and moisturizing your skin, apply your base foundation and allow it to set for a few minutes. This will give you a smooth, translucent surface for application of your highlighter.

Apply make up highlighter: Use a light hand to apply.

Using your powder brush, lightly apply highlighter to the area just above your cheekbones to enhance them and make them appear more prominent. The key is to brush on highlighter with a light touch so that it doesn't look harsh or obvious. Too much highlighter can make you look like a clown! Practice until you can apply it without leaving an obvious line of demarcation. Do you have a wide nose? Apply highlighter down the center of your nose and a darker shade of makeup subtly along the edges. If you have a weak chin, apply highlighter lightly to the tip of your chin to visually bring it forward, causing it to appear more prominent.

Apply make up highlighter: Proceed with the rest of your make up.

Once you've applied highlighter above your cheekbones, apply a light application of blush directly to your cheekbones. Your cheekbones should appear more pronounced from the contrast of the colored blush next to the highlighter.

Apply make up highlighter: Apply a final layer of powder.

Now that you've contoured your face with highlighter and applied blush, lightly apply a layer of translucent loose powder over the entire surface of your face. This will reduce shine and help to set your facial contouring.

You're now ready to face the world with your freshly highlighted and contoured face. Enjoy!
