The Conduit: What Makes It Good?

Hmm, The Conduit, huh? I wonder why it's good?

The First Sightings

The first trailers of Sega's The Conduit presented Wii owners a seemingly hardcore FPS with slick graphics, an impressive storyline, and solid online multiplayer matches. The hype was contagious; I was immediately hooked by the trailers and wanted to buy it the moment it came out. Supplied with information about the game through the Nintendo Channel, I grew to want it more and more. Why though? I wanted it because I felt and still feel that third-party publishers aren't serving the hardcore gamer as much as the Microsoft and Sony platforms. Of course we see some games that hit home in the more recent months, but I haven't seen Nintendo's Halo yet, if you know what I mean. Of course that is my opinion, and every man his own.

I Was a Late Buyer

True. I was a late buyer, so many Wii owners already own or played The Conduit. This article is for anyone who is interested in The Conduit. Now I won't go into the details of the story because I don't want to spoil it for you. But I will explain some things the trailers do. For example, the main character is an Ex-Secret Service agent named Michael Ford. After mysterious events occur in Washington, D.C., Mr.Ford is contacted by a secret organization called Trust. The leader of the mysterious organization is named John Adams. Mr. Adams assigns the task of taking out a terrorist called Prometheus, who stole a prototype device from the Trust and plans to spill a neuro-toxin into the Potomac River, so it will spread to the citizens of D.C. Then there is a bad run in with some aliens at the Jefferson Memorial who are not what they appear to be *hint, hint*.

Features

The features are vast and are lengthy, so in a nutshell. The HUD is customizable and so are the controls in real-time, so you can try your set-up without having to go back and forth through the pause menu. There are achievements to earn and secrets to find, along with some cheats. There are some concept galleries to unlock as well.

Multiplayer

Another good reason to get The Conduit. The multiplayer is very versatile and like Halo in some ways. There are different Costumes to represent your player in which two colors can be customized. There is a rank system where you obtain XP. There is also a 'Killing Spree' mode you go into after you obtain three kills in a row that grants 150% bonus XP, and another 50% XP with every kill afterward. I got my Spree up to 10 for 600% bonus XP one time. There are a plethora of play modes, but there are some more popular now as players vote on what to play.

The Conduit is a solid FPS for the Wii with an awesome storyline and plot twists, plus the multiplayer to boot. If your not sure if you want it or not, I recommend buying it. Of course you might not be satisfied at first with it, because in my opinion the Campaign is too short. But the end credits that roll at the end of the campaign (not from the Main Menu) offer another nice surprise *hint, hint*. The game is packed with a What's-going-on?-Got-to-find-out;-don't-die-though theme to it. I still haven't plucked all the secrets out of The Conduit yet. Hopefully you can.
