Rank algorithm. The following myths would answer all your questions including

what PageRank is and what not.

I GOT A PR5! MY GOOGLE TRAFFIC WILL NOW BOOST!!

Wrong. Page Rank does not boost up your site’s Google traffic (people coming

from Google to your site). But it definitely helps to have a higher page rank.

Although, your traffic depends upon how well your pages have been search engine

optimized and how targeted your pages are with respect to the keywords.

PAGE RANK IS CALCULATED  EVERY  3 MONTHS

No. Actually, it is a continuous process and your site’s PR keeps on increasing

and/or decreasing according to the link juice you receive or give. But publicly the

PR updates are announced every 2-3 months.

ITS PROFITABLE TO SETUP 100 DOMAINS AND LINK THEM TO MAIN

SITE

No. That can be the costliest mistake you ever do with your site. O.K, you buy 100

domains for even $10 each, that’s $1000 in total!  Don’t think each of these

domains will automatically get PR3 for themselves and will also pass a lot of link

juice to your main site. At best, all you’ll get will be 100 links each having PR0.

And for all this effort what you’d get for you main site is a PR1 (if not PR0). Now

I don’t see any profit there.

ITS NECESSARY FOR A SITE TO BE LISTED IN DIRECTORIES LIKE DMOZ

Wrong. Its being observed that Google doesn’t give any extra weightage to the

sites which are listed on DMOZ. So don’t focus a lot on being listed on DMOZ and

other directories like that.

PAGE RANK  IS USELESS

Of course……………..Not! Page Rank is one of the most important aspects that

advertisers use to rate your website and sponsor it; although it has nothing to do

with the traffic they get. So if you have a good Page Rank you have a lot of site

monetization options. Also, a high Page Rank is required for selling your website

at a huge price. So its well worth the efforts. After all we are creating websites for

profits, aren’t we?

POST QUALITY COMMENTS ON OTHER SITES FOR BACKLINKS

Wrong. What many webmasters do is that they leave their sites’ links in their

signatures whenever they comment on other sites/blogs. You get the backlinks but

most of the time the links you get would be “nofollow”. So you’ll not get the link-

juice. So signature links in comments are good for PR only if they are not nofollow

(i.e, they are dofollow).

IF SPAM SITES LINK TO ME, I AM DOOMED

Wrong. Although, Google will find out that you are getting links from a spam site

or a site that is involved in blackhat activities, but it will not punish you for that.

However, if you link to a spam site, you may get penalized. So be careful.

I hope its will clear all myths about page rank
