Why people hesitate to ask about tire pressures is a question to think about! Well it is quite easy to understand as it is considered a common sense thing that’s why people believe that if they’ll ask about it, others will laugh on them. Well you should not worry about this any more as all answers to your questions related to tire pressure are available in your owner manual and if those are not enough, internet is there to further help you.

Average pound per square inch or psi for a tire is 30 in case of car and approximately 45 psi for truck’s tire. Make sure that you are not driving a vehicle having 6 more or less than required psi in its tires.

Having additional air in tires is okay but its better have not too much. In this manner when your tires will lose some air, functionality will not be lost. How ever be careful with inflated tires as it will be dangerous for you if your inflated tires hit a large stone or any hole. Therefore though over inflated tires provide better steering to an extent, avoid driving with them.

You can drive with tires with low psi but then it will have negative effect over your gas mileage and also you’ll lose your tires efficiency. It is better to regularly check the pressure of the tires. Driving with tires having very low psi can make your tires lose their durability to even 25%. Low psi can also make your tires bend while rolling. As friction will increase, your fuel efficiency will start decreasing to 5%. It will be therefore highly recommended not to drive with low psi tires.

So why does this air pressure reduces in the tire? It depends basically on pressure and time. As the time passes the tire rubber stretches it self and therefore provide space for little air to escape through it. So if you do not have your tires properly inflated you might lose 6psi in 6 months. Another important factor behind air escape is temperature. As the tire gets heat up, air start escaping. The rate of escape is 1psi per 10 degree increase.

It is suggested that you should keep on checking the psi or your tires regularly. You can check your tires on weekly basis as it will let you discover and fix those problems which can become serious with time. To check the tire pressure you need a common gauge which is not only cheap but also is available from every auto parts or vehicles stores. You can also buy digital gauge but it is very costly and does not help much. It would be a waste of money as manually operated cheap gauges can do this job perfectly and smoothly too.

At the end, having a check on air pressure of your vehicle’s tires is not difficult at all therefore make it a habit and save yourself from a mishap. Have a nice day!
