How to Install a Car Stereo (The Easy Way)
Based on the brand of stereo you get there will be different add-ons, but all the basics are the same when it comes to connecting it.
Now that you have your old stereo out, you can begin the process of installing the new one. In the previous tutorial I went over the basics and tools you need, so those are still required. Based on the brand of stereo you get there will be different add-ons, but all the basics are the same when it comes to connecting it.
Step 1: Take a look at the back of the stereo and there should be the same two outlets as your old one when it comes to connection. Take the antennae cable and plug it in again and do the same with the wiring clasp. Remember that you may have to apply a little pressure when inserting the wiring clasp due to the retaining clips. Usually the clasp can only go in one way so just fumble around with it until it slips in (you will hear a click).
Step 2: Slowly lift up the stereo and guide all the wires to the back while pushing the stereo in the slot. Make sure you go extra slow when putting the wires back in the slot because it’s extremely easy to disconnect the wires or cause minor damages to the cables.
Step 3: Set stereo all the way in slot until it’s sturdy and hold in place while you begin to screw. See if the new screws that came with the new stereo fit, if they do, then you have the option of using them. However; if they don’t fit (which some wont) you’re going to need to take your old ones and use them. Place one hand on the stereo holding it evenly in place and start screwing the screws in, be sure to do one screw half way then place in the other one and do it half way before screwing them all the way in. This will guarantee that your stereo is balanced and one side isn’t up more than the other.
Step 4: The final step that you’re going to have to do is putting the faceplate back on. This can be done just as easy as it was to take it off. Line the grooves up and with both hands push forward until you hear the “click”. When you hear that it means everything is secure and aligned. Some cars’ faceplates are a little different so it might take a while to get straight, however; just remain calm and with patience it should click right in.
(Once everything is installed simply turn on your ignition and test it out)
P.S. You just saved over $200 in labor cost by doing it yourself!
