Are there really freelance writing jobs in the Philippines? Yes there are. Just open your eyes to the many possibilities around you.

Freelance writing may just be starting to take its wings in the Philippines. Slowly but surely, more and more people are exploring and discovering alternate ways and means to earn an income. And why not, when companies are downsizing left and right, being competent is no longer an assurance of a steady future. Because of this, more and more people are looking for ways to earn on their own.

Freelance writing is one such job – it is an alternative way of earning an income, and you are only dependent on yourself. For freelance writers out there, here are some tips on how you can find freelance jobs easily.

1. Join marketplaces such as oDesk, Guru, Elance and other such similar sites. Personally, I work at oDesk and I haven’t had any complaints. In fact, it has augmented my income quite considerably. There are many sites like these but you might want to choose those that do not require you to pay anything up front, such as oDesk. Once you’ve joined these sites, apply for jobs and you can earn instantly when you finish your job and the buyer pays you. You can really make money online from oDesk, just make sure that you choose the right buyers.

2. Join and write for revenue-sharing sites such as Bukisa and Hubpages. These sites let you post articles and it works like a blogsite, in which you generate earnings when someone views your page, or clicks on the ads shown on them. Bukisa operates on a pay-per-view manner while Hubpages operates on a pay-per-click. These two sites do not generate income immediately, and the earnings might come in cents, very slowly, indeed. But what’s good here is that you continue to earn even three or five years from now. Plus you retain rights to your work.

3. Maintain your own blogsite and get revenues from Adsense. This takes some time and effort, and you have to stick to a niche if you want your page to rank high in the search engines. So if you write about “cola drinks”, you need to write a lot about them. This is quite hard because there are lots of already published information on the web about anything so it is not that easy to find that niche. There are some tools, however, and if you’re serious about this, you might want to invest in these tools (like Site Build It). They say it has worked wonders for a lot of people. It’s quite pricey so I haven’t ventured to it yet.

As for me, I have done Number 1 for almost a year now, and in the process I have been recognized as one of the top writers in the marketplace – very fulfilling, indeed! Now I am slowly working my way towards Number 2. Perhaps I’ll make some money, too, and when I do, I will definitely tell you about it.
