The WWE has had many gimmick matches over the years but none of them are as great as the Hell in the Cell match. These are the 10 greatest Hell in the Cell matches in WWE history.

In professional wrestling the best way to end a feud between two wrestlers is to have them face off in what is called a “gimmick match.”  A gimmick match is a match that has some kind of stipulation.  The most popular gimmick match used to end a feud is a cage match but the WWE took it to another whole level when they introduced the Hell in the Cell Match.  The Hell in the Cell has been a staple in the WWE ever since.  These are the ten best Hell in the Cell matches in WWE history.

10.  Batista vs. Triple H – Vengeance 2005
Batista is one of my least favorite wrestlers in the WWE because he's only marginally good and is a bit lazy but the Triple H feud was the one really good thing to come out of his career.  The face turn by Batista was great and is the only reason anybody currently cares about Batista at all.  A lot of people don't like Triple H but the people he has put over usually become stars and he makes them look good in their match.

9.  Randy Orton vs. Undertaker -  Armageddon 2005
The Undertaker will be making many appearances on this list since the Hell in the Cell is his specialty.  In 2005 Randy Orton, the “Legend Killer” challenged the Undertaker to a match at Wrestlemania.  Undertaker won so he could keep his winning streak at Wrestlemania intact.  Randy Orton would get another chance at the Undertaker at Armageddon but would be unsuccessful once again.

8.  Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker – No Mercy 2002
In 2002 Brock Lesnar had a rise to the top unlike any other.  Brock Lesnar won the King of the Ring and defeated both the Rock and Hulk Hogan.  Also along the way he took on the Undertaker in his best match, the Hell in the Cell.  Even the Undertaker in his best match couldn't stop the Next Big Thing Brock Lesnar.

7.  Kurt Angle vs. Undertaker vs. Triple H vs. Steve Austin vs The Rock vs. Rikishi – Armageddon 2000
Armageddon 2000 is probably best known for Rikishi's lame fall from the top of the cage to the back of a truck filled with hay.  I was at Armageddon 2000 though and being their live always make it seem better than it was.  Plus Kurt Angle wasn't a star yet so his retaining the title against Triple H, The Rock, Stone Cold and The Undertaker was a major upset.

6.  Batista vs. Undertaker – Survivor Series 2007
I have mixed feelings about the Survivor Series 2007 match between Batista and the Undertaker.  The match was a very good match in a series of good PPV matches between the two and Edge's appearance and interference was great.  The problem is this was the the third match in a series.  It should have decisively ended this feud but Batista only won because of interference.

5.  Chris Jericho vs. Triple H – Judgment Day 2002
It's a shame that Triple H was never willing to do the job to Chris Jericho.  In the ring the two of them had chemistry as good as anybody and they could've had a long back and forth feud with each other.  Instead this match was just another win for Triple H.

4.  Cactus Jack vs. Triple H -  No Way Out 2000
The attempt to match Mick Foley's bump from his Hell in the Cell match with the Undertaker was not very good at all but the match itself was great.  It helped that Cactus Jack was forced to retire and gave a teary goodbye at the end of the match.  Although it also took away from the match when he returned just one month later.

3.  Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels - Bad Blood 2004
Triple H and Shawn Michaels have wrestled each other a lot.  Maybe too much.  From 2002 until this match in 2004 alone Triple H and Shawn Michaels had been in nine matches against each other.  You can't deny that the two of them work great together though because this was another classic match.

2.  Mankind vs. Undertaker – King of the Ring 1998
The King of the Ring 1998 will always be remembered as one of most hardcore matches of all-time.  Mankind falls off the top of the cage, then through the table then gets planted on some thumbtacks.  Mick Foley became a star that night.  Too bad he nearly had to kill himself for people to finally take notice.  Later that night Kane would win the World Title for the first and only time and absolutely nobody remembers that match.

1.  HBK vs. Undertaker – In Your House:  Bad Blood
In movies it is always hard to beat the original.  That isn't always the case in professional wrestling but it is true in this case.  The very first Hell in the Cell match between Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker is still the best.  It might not have had the bumps that Mankind made but it was the better match overall.  Plus Shawn Michaels did fall while dangling from the cage.  Maybe it's not what Mankind did but it was one of the biggest bumps ever taken at the time.

Man, the second I saw this title I said to myself “It’s gotta be Lee”.  lol!  Great article as always, and yes, HBK vs UT was an epic match.
