How to Make and Print Labels In Microsoft Word Documents

Dec 13th, 2008 by amandalyn

Would you like to create beautiful address labels with your computer but don't know how?

Open Microsoft Word, Go to the Tools Function at the Top of the Page. Scroll Down and Click on "Envelopes and Labels." Choose the "Labels" Tab.

Look at the manufacturer's labels you have bought. There is a number associated with the labels. Avery is the best. For example if you are making address labels for the same person (like in a office where you will repeatedly mail to the same address) and you want one full page of the same labels, then you will buy Avery 5160 or Avery 5161 labels. To select these labels, you then click the options tab and scroll down to 5160 or 5161, highlighting the one you bought. Click "OK."

On this screen you have the option of making one whole page of labels that repeat the same address information or making one single label. You see this info under the address box you type in on the left. Click in the appropriate circle for what you want. If you are only printing a single label, then carefully count where the label is on the sheet and enter the row and column into the designated area beside the circle in this box. Enter the address info into the box on this screen.

If you are new to making labels, then I recommend that you NEVER hit the print button. This is a disaster waiting to happen. You may have your labels in the printer wrong, may have a typo, anything. So, just click "New Document" to preview your labels or label and on this page you can edit what you have done if need be before printing.

Also, if you need labels with different names or are setting up a mail merge, then the "New Document" button will be your best friend. Always verify that you have selected the right labels in the options area of the labels and save your "New Document" labels with the name of the labels so that you have them for future reference.
