The NBA Playoffs and March Madness are both exciting times for a sports fan, but which event is the better of the two?

The sporting world has several different events each year that are set up high above the rest, with the Super Bowl still keeping the top spot among most sports fans. Not too far behind are both March Madness and the NBA Playoffs. Both of these sporting events provide a great deal of excitement and attract a whole lot of attention throughout the country and even around the world. I wanted to take a look at the pros and the cons of both the NBA Playoffs and March Madness.

NBA Playoffs

Pros:

  • The best of the best are playing here. These are the best basketball players in the world matched up against each other.
  • The best of seven series are great because they provide a chance for a team that has one bad game to completely wipe the slate clean and still have a great chance at winning the series.
  • The fact that 16 games need to be won to be the champion means that the overall champion will have beaten the best of the best numerous times, so there is no doubt who is #1.

Cons

  • The seven game series also make one game less important, meaning that it isn't a do or die situation unless it is game seven.
  • The NBA style of basketball doesn't lend itself as much to teamwork and ball movement, rather there is more one-on-one match ups.

March Madness

Pros:

  • The bracket system makes March Madness the most interactive and enjoyable tournament in all of sports to follow along with. The bracket pools allow those who don't normally care about sports to turn into sports fans for a few weeks.
  • The one and done style of the tournament lends itself to some shocking upsets, which can be quite amazing to watch. The one and done style also puts huge emphasis on each game, which means the best effort comes out.
  • The time to complete the entire tournament is short and sweet, which makes things not drag out at all and keeps the fan base fired up all the way through the tournament.

Cons

  • While a one and one system is great for excitement, it isn't the best for finding the best team in the field. There have certainly been numerous times when the overall best team is unable to win the tournament because of one bad game.
  • The early round games can be boring if you see too many #1 vs. #16 seeds, the winner isn't in doubt and the match ups aren't interesting.

Overall I have to give the edge to March Madness. March Madness brings more excitement to the event, and it is something that can involve everyone. Both of these sporting events are great for sports lovers, but the madness in March is tough to beat!
