An in-depth look at how your website should be designed and what software you should use to fit your needs.

Everyone who surfs the internet does it for a reason. They choose to visit websites that match their interests, and they usually judge if it's the right website for them by the look of it.

Every type of website has a certain look to it that you can expect from it. If it's a business website you expect a nice simple design with white as the base color and maybe light green or grey to compliment it. You can always tell what kind of site you're looking at just by the layout and colors, but recently I've discovered that with the uproar of people starting websites, that the organization of the Internet has died.

So what should your website look like?

If we are looking at a tech forum you should always go with flight white. This way it doesn't look too complicated and people feel comfortable.

Business sites as stated before need to be white, maybe light grey. They should also be clean CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) sites so they look inviting yet professional. The easiest way to build a good business site is by using a site builder which is normally available with any hosting package.

Dreaded and feared hacking sites which most people don't dare entering are always very dark, black, or employing a combination of the darkest shades of red and blue. Warez site are most likely to follow this guideline as well. When a dark looking site comes up from a Google search, most people close them right away. People shy away from this kind of sites thinking of the repercussions of their visits as most of these sites are monitored by government officials.

Personal websites and blogs tend to break the rule, because no one is going to visit them unless they know whom it belongs to or what they are anyway, so it really doesn't matter. However staying away from the whole dark and dangerous theme is probably always a good idea.

If you are creating some kind of database website (a.k.a web portal) it’s recommended that you follow the same layouts as used by most of business websites. I also recommend getting a CMS (Content Management Systems) such as Joomla to keep everything neat and well-organized.

That's the way the web works, and if you're thinking about starting a website follow this guideline and keep some sanity on it.
